One of the most valuable resources available to aspiring business owners in our region is the East Central Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Through no-cost advising, training, and workshops, the SBDC helps entrepreneurs navigate the early stages of business development with confidence and clarity.

Starting a business can feel overwhelming, but the right guidance can make all the difference. The SBDC’s “Guide to Starting a Business” workshop—offered virtually every second Wednesday of the month—provides a practical, step-by-step introduction to entrepreneurship.

This free session is designed to help individuals evaluate their ideas with the end in mind, ensuring they are building on a solid foundation. Participants are introduced to key concepts such as:

• Conducting a self-assessment
• Performing market research
• Evaluating the viability and feasibility of a business idea
• Understanding startup costs
• Writing a business plan
• Completing a startup checklist
• Exploring financing options

These fundamentals are critical—not just for launching a business, but for sustaining and growing one over time.
